WILDFIRE MITIGATION TRAINING
April 28, 2026 600 Aspen Road, Socorro, New Mexico 87801 9:30am
From Advice to Standards: A Unified Approach to Reducing Wildfire Risk
Firefighters across New Mexico are increasingly being asked: “What should I do to protect my home
from wildfire?” Until now, responses have varied—based on personal experience, local practices, or
general WUI guidance. While well-intentioned, this inconsistency can lead to confusion and uneven
levels of protection.
This training changes that.
OSI invites you to a presentation featuring IBHS, Laura Blaul. Laura Blaul is a Senior Wildfire Fellow with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) where she leads collaborative efforts to advance wildfire resilience through strategic partnerships, applied research and community engagement. She is also and a retired fire service executive with over 30 years of experience protecting communities and advancing safety, rising through the ranks of the Orange County Fire Authority from Paid Call Firefighter to Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal. In that role, she established the Pre-Fire Management Section to lead wildfire prevention and mitigation and co-developed the “Ready, Set, Go!” program, now a national model for wildfire preparedness. Laura also teaches special education and creates hands-on fire and life safety workshops, believing resilience is rooted in science, strengthened by preparation, and sustained through community connection.
We are inviting all:
